New homes to help homeless people get back on track
This year we worked with Oldham Council to help some of the most vulnerable people in our borough, by creating new homes to get rough sleepers off the street and into safe accommodation.
The vital initiative was made possible by £167k funding from the government’s Next Steps Accommodation Programme (NSAP), plus an investment contribution from us of £243k.
Ten unoccupied, non-residential properties across the borough were refurbished and converted into one and two-bedroom homes for individuals and couples in Oldham with a long or repeated history of homelessness.
The re-purposed properties have been allocated to people in need by Oldham Council’s Homelessness Service.
As part of their tenancy, the new occupants are also receiving assistance from our Community Impact Team to help them get their lives back on track.

Fire Safety Investment Programme launches
This year we launched our Fire Safety Investment Programme and invested £3.4m to enhance fire safety in blocks of flats with three or more storeys.
The work we have delivered covers:
- Fire stopping work in 551 homes, to stop any fire from spreading
- 1212 communal fire door replacements
- 124 bin chutes and bin stores refurbished to help control fire, should it take place
- Installed new fire rated front doors in 98 flats
- Installed new fire rated windows in 23 flats
- Increased fire and carbon monoxide detection measures in 294 flats
These measures will maintain and improve homes and ensure they comply with fire and building safety legislation both now and in the future and continue to keep customers safe.
